Neumont Rolls Out a New Learning Management Systems

Next quarter, Neumont will switch begin using a new Learning Management System - Instructure Canvas LMS.

After evaluating a number of LMS platforms we feel that Canvas is the best fit for Neumont and will provide our students with a great learning platform. Canvas is simple, powerful, and does a great job facilitating the learning process. We’re excited to see how this new tool can be used in our unique learning environment.

A few key pieces of information related to this rollout:
1. The switch from Moodle to Canvas will happen during the between-quarter break. The exact date hasn’t been set, but it will be ready for the first day of class.
2. The URL will remain the same: https://lms.neumont.edu.
3. You will log into Canvas using your NUID.
4. Your instructors will spend some time in class demonstrating the specifics of their course pages.
5. An excellent student user guide can be found at : http://guides.instructure.com/m/4212
6. This LMS platform is pretty easy to use. If you get stuck, click the Help link in the upper-right corner of your LMS screen.
7. Be sure to spend some time setting up your Notification Preferences (Profile>Notifications). This is one of our favorite features, giving students a high degree of control over notification methods and timing. Want to get a text message when there is a new announcement for a class? No problem.
8. If you want to learn more about Canvas during the break, just Google “Canvas LMS” or visit www.instructure.com.

LMS Archives:
1. You can still access your work from the previous eight quarters at http://lmsarchive.neumont.edu. This archive will remain in place for one year. If you want copies of your old assignments, please download them.
2. The new LMS (Canvas) retains copies of your old assignments, eliminating the need for a separate “archive” site. Once the LMS is in production for a few quarters we will evaluate the effectiveness of this archiving method and make adjustments if necessary.

We hope you enjoy using Canvas next quarter. After using it for a while, let us know what you love and hate about the new LMS. We have a good relationship with Instructure and we will be sure to pass along any suggestions.

Neumont Bookstore Now Open for Summer Orders

The Neumont University Virtual Bookstore is open for business TODAY.

If you plan on using your Student Financial Aid (student account) to purchase your text books, please make sure your Student Financial Aid information is up to date (you may contact Kristi Robertson in Financial Aid to verify your status and eligibility). Also, you may want to reset the spam filter on your Outlook account to allow e-mails from MBS Direct to enter your inbox. MBS Direct will e-mail your SFA Voucher to you.

The Virtual Bookstore is organized according to class names and will provide you with real-time inventory when ordering. When you order your text books you will need the following information:

• Course schedule with course numbers and titles (e.g. MAT 220 Linear Algebra)
• The address you wish to have your order shipped to
• Your SFA Voucher number and student identification number (shown on your ID badge) or credit/debit card information
• Please check the designation of each book in relation to your class. You are not required to purchase text books with the designation “recommended or optional.”

MBS Direct will also be conducting a book buyback program. Information on the buyback program can be found directly on the VB site.

Neumont's Got Talent 3.0

Neumont’s Got Talent 3.0 will take place Friday, March 8th, at noon in room 300. All those attending will cast their vote for our show’s winner. Bring your lunch; we’ll provide dessert and drinks.  We'll have opera singers, dancers, comics, and more.
