Choosing a College that’s right for YOU!

April is coming to an end!  If you are tearing out your hair and getting very little sleep, trying to choose between a few different options don’t worry, this kind of experience is normal!  This is one of the most important decisions of your life, so it won’t be an easy one.  But, all big problems can be tackled the same way you would eat an elephant: one bite at a time.

Money Matters!
    •  College is an investment in your future.  View it as one.
    • Apply for scholarships and grants.  They are opportunities to get free money.
    •  Work part time.  Part time jobs are a great way to lessen the financial burden, and on campus jobs usually take into consideration that school work comes first.

Location, Location, Location!
    •   Do a lot of research about the location the school is located in and where you will be living.  Make sure that you will feel comfortable living in that area.
    •  Take into consideration the cost of living.
    •  Take into consideration any additional schooling expenses.  Some schools have requirements such as moving out of housing during breaks.

College Life
    •  Prepare yourself for the college experience.  College is not the same as high school.  You will have to keep up with your studies, while managing your lifestyle.
    • Ask current college students about their experiences and daily routines to get a better feel about how your college experience will be.
    •  Learn what works for you.  Learning how you function most effectively will definitely give you the edge during finals week.
    •  Maintain a healthy lifestyle.  School is important, but health is more important.   Stay active and eat right to be able to function properly.

Most Importantly
    • The college you choose is your decision.  Don’t base your decision solely off of what your parents or friends say.
