The Neumont Difference

Every once in a while, and probably at least once per week, I am reminded of why the Neumont difference is superior...for a certain type of student.  Today, on a beautiful summer day in Salt Lake is one of those days.  Neumont University instructor, Jamie King sent me the photo below because he gets it, as do all of our faculty.  Learning in groups, interacting, working together, gaming together, and growing together is just more fun. Why do you think the Neumont Difference is superior?

Why do I point out that the Neumont difference is superior 'for a certain type of student?'  Well, anyone who attends classes at Neumont can tell you that it takes a little something extra to go to NU. We'll call those things stamina and passion.

Stamina - Neumont isn't a walk in the park.  We're not some weak-sauce institution printing out diplomas just because you paid your tuition every quarter.  A Neumont degree is earned. The Neumont logo begins with a pixelated mountain which represents the North Face of a Summit.  The North Face gets less sun, and therefor for rock climbers and adventurers is the most satisfying side to summit.  Same with the Neumont experience.  Sure, you could earn a computer science degree from a state institution - but you won't have developed stamina.  Stamina is built, over time, by challenging your mind or body to work longer and harder than you thought possible.  Stamina comes from sweat - mental or physical, and stamina is something a Neumont graduate has developed by working for 500 intense days at a pace they didn't think they'd be able to keep.

Passion - Neumont isn't for the student who wants to dabble in a little of this and a little of that.  You won't take classes that engage in esoteric musings on Proust.  We'll immerse you in technology from day one, and make you an elite professional, one who studied in an environment unparalleled in CS education, a University where 100% of the student population is focused on the same topics and challenges you are.  Can you think of a better way to hard-wire your brain for a future career in tech?

But, I am just one voice.  I wonder what students see as the major differences between Neumont and the traditional options.

Neumont Zombie Outbreak, Coding Competition, and Trampoline Outing

TRAIL OF THE DEAD / ZOMBIE DASH
This Saturday’s “Trail Of The Dead / Zombie Dash” will be postponed until next quarter’s Unplug & Play Festival.

CODING COMPETITION
Keep your mind clear for future zombie survival with our first student-run Coding Competition, presented by USG.  The competition will be in room 300 this Saturday from noon until 4 pm (no need to sign up in advance).  As is true with zombie survival, bigger teams are better.  Survive in this competition as a solo player or with teams up to three people.  Pizza and soft drinks will be provided.  Contact Kenneth Lin for any questions about the competition. klin@student.neumont.edu

JUMP ON IT
With the Zombie outbreak on hold for now, celebrate with us after the Coding Competition as we jump for joy at the “Jump On It” trampoline center.  This jumping center has 10,000 sq. ft. of trampolines and inflatable fun. $8 to jump for 1 hour and $5 for a second hour of jumping.   A free shuttle will leave Four Seasons Clubhouse at 6pm on Saturday.  Please sign up with JP to secure your spot on the shuttle.
